Do We Really Need To Earn More

I was watching a series or documentary where they asked a couple of natives (I don't know where they were from, but I am guessing they were from Africa) to go to London and take a look at the people's lives. I was amazed at the comment of the natives. They said that people were crazy in the urban area. We have a lot of buildings, but there were homeless people around. We had a lot of sources of food, but there were a lot of people who were hungry. We loved our pets too much to the point of prioritizing them over other people in need. I got into thinking. What do you think? Are we crazy for working ourselves to the bones for some things that aren't really necessary?

Hi. Aaaarrrggh, I'm guilty. I used to work without minding my own health. I used to work almost 24/7 just to bring home extra money for my family. My health gave up last year to the point that I had to resign from the company. [soledadclickz]

Hi laydee I think the native is right. We the human who declare ourselves as the wise creature of the nature is actually crazy. Being a natural creature he is more close to the nature and we the inhabitant of the urban are live artificial life. What we think the prosperity is nothing but our abnormality that why we think that we are happy with the us. But ask yourself ..... just don't chest yourself really you are happy. If you find the answer then ask again..... again and again.... are you really happy. I think you will find the answer negative. Naturally .... we the people are actually not happy but pretend to be happy. That is the misery of the artificial life. The nature is ore of the joy and peace. We far away from the nature.... How can we be happy. But it is our binding the we have consider this and whole life imitate ourselves as a happy one. [reeyan]

hi laydee, yeah! I think we are little crazy in thinking that we need a lot of things in order for us to be happy. We are not contented on what we have, we always ask for greatness, we wanted to have everything and the best in this world. Like those natives, who are living in a very simple life and they are contented on what they have. But things really change now a days, with technology advancement and the demand for better living is different from what we knew before. We need to earn more to fully satisfy our needs. But sometimes we are becoming exaggerated and we work so hard to buy things that we don't even need. Happy Lotting! [danitykane]

Dear L, well, its quite thought provoking, you see, one way we all need the so called stuff for survival & on the other hand we just going to accumulate all needless things, tell me how a 42" plasma or LCD full HD needs for survival !!!! actually not, but still we all are running a mad rat race, which ends only when you die !!!!! so in a way, yes, we do not need these things to live & on the other hand we do........ i rest my case...... PEACE EVERYWHERE...... [bhatt99in]

I think that the living standard is getting much higher that it used to, so there is need for us to make more money to help support our original life in the first place before we try to make a better life of ours. But however much we are trying to make, we are supposed to pay great attention to our health as a good health is the most important thing for us to make a good sum of money, without which it is hard to make even some basic money... [williamjisir]

To be honest depends how long you work for I am aiming to retire at 40 so I work as hard as I can to enable me to enjoy the latter year's. [benny128]
who says I don't enjoy it now he he he I love everyday as I am alive, and when I hit 40 I will just simply enjoy life in a different way. If you know what I mean. [benny128]

I guess you must be very rich. The poor haven't enough time to think about a question like this because they are totally occupied in earning a life. As you begin to think about this, you have been kind of philosophor. The motivation we work hard to earn money is expection for better life, not for ourselves but also for our family. However, no one can exactly define what kind of a life he is really after. The more money we earn, the more we feel we need to earn. [alexfeile318]
Oh, nah, I'm not rich. If I were rich I wouldn't be spending too much time here in mylot. :) However, the topic just got me curious because of what I saw on television. I'm growing tired of working, and the series just gave me an eye-opener as to why I am doing this to myself? For what? And besides, we work so hard to provide for our family and children. But just look at society's young, they are wild and crazy and they no longer see the value of 'family', I guess this is what we get for spending too much time working instead of 'being there'. [laydee]

a interest story.it's can building our inspiration in our lives.that story can give our lesson in the lives, such as concerning to other people especially they are live in poor country. [wondo06]

hi! for me we're not crazy...we just prioritize the things we thought good for us.. you know only few people learn and give importance in helping others..do u know what crazy people do? they don't wear anything, they're naked walking in the hallway searching and collecting garbage..So do u think your like that? the thing that some natives were taken for granted its simply because racial discrimination is existing and you will agree or not you feel that, right?.. [reignlot]
Well, I think you're taking the word 'crazy' too literally my friend. The mere fact that the native didn't speak English and needed a translator doesn't mean he thinks of us people as nudists and having loose bolts in our heads. He was referring to how our 'prioritization' is so mixed up to the point of giving importance to something that isn't necessary to live, and missing the importance of life. [laydee]

This just shows that people are getting blinded by money. But that is the sad reality, as people distance themselves from each other the more they depend on material things. The more we depend on material things, the more we need money. This also show the far divide between the rich and the poor. The rich keeps getting richer and the poor keeps getting poorer. But i guess that those natives got a point. And a lot are guilty of it. If only the rich could give more. Cheers! [ybong007]

We are so selfish that we dont even dare to think apart from our daily needs or about the needy ones who struggle real hard to have a lunch or dinner. All we need is to make money and store for ourselves and spend lavishly when it is birthday time or any other occassion. If we can donate that amount to some poor ones they would be much happier coz you have helped them to buy some food for which they would be thankful to you for their entire life. Even though i earn some decent money i try to donate some for the poor coz we can earn mney easily but they dont know how to earn more as they are illiterates. So if every one can join hands and donate some money to the needy ones it would great help for them.gud day. [sunnycool]

But not all people think or do that way. They seems to do necessary things. Other people also do some charity works just to help people. I do believe that if we have that big money already because of our sweats, we need to share it to everyone who needs it. [joannaleed]

It is good question in customer society. When all spend lot of time in supermarkets and don' see anymore else. Don't see changes in the natures and things what are realed with soul. [akante]

Dear friend, I want to earn money for my dear ones. I want to give them all the happiness and pleasure of the world. I want to give them a high status of living and better lifestyle. For that I want to earn money, otherwise money is of no use for me. I always make sure that my earning spirit should not affect my family member. I always try a balance between earning and my family. [rika999]

It's a completely different lifestyle that none should compare or emulate. I am not talking about the ultimate goal in life here but the way we are brought up and the way we would want to lead our lives. I wont exactly say 'natives' here but rural or tribal people…they have their own lifestyle, their own knowledge, their own understanding of how they would want to lead their lives…similarly, we who are in the urban jungle have our own expectations and problems and solutions to it. As I said, there's just no comparison between the two and if you interchange the groups, I think we'll find that most would want to go back to their original lifestyles, irrespective of where they came from. [sudiptacallingu]
But remember that we are the society, we are also tribes. It doesn't mean we're superior nor them inferior. But the point of the matter is, isn't he right when he noticed that we have separated ourselves from what we call 'humanity' and have given much importance to material stuff? And in doing so, isn't this a warning that we're leading a dangerous life? [laydee]

Look friends. Health is wealth. I do not recommend to work a lot which causes bed health. Only i can say that earn with maximum capabilities without deteriorating your health with maximum satisfaction. That's my rule. You should give time to your friends, your wife, your society and many more. Money is not important at all. However, thinking is depending upon person to person. [jennconnect]

no one will dislike money. earning more means enjoying more. many people have not enough food, but those are "others" to anyone who don't starve. [iamzhh]

Life is more than makeing money, there are too many things we can do when we are alive ,for example ,fall in love, human beings need love ,but when you lived in a developed country ,without money ,you can do nothing ,we need money ,but we shouldn't take all of our time on making money ,we live for ourselves ,so share you time with your family on vocation ,go finishing.... we need money ,but life is more than making money....
