I'm planning to start a small business. Since we have a small area in our farm i would like to have a poultry or livestock business and i would also like to buy and sell copra. Problem is I'm no business course graduate. But my father is an agriculturist and he sure can give me advices about my plans and help me through it. I have a small capital that's enough to start my plan. So should I do it? I mean, do you think I can succeed without having much knowledge about business?

I think that before you start with your business, you need to invest first in educating yourself about poultry raising and starting a business. It would be worth it if you have a background knowledge about all these, including business practices. It's good to start a business because it will test your business savvy skills and it presents a very challenging situation. You will succeed. Go ahead. [learn2earn]
You don't need to enroll in a formal business course. Just read some good books and literatures about starting a business or business in general... [learn2earn]
You can if you know your market good enough. Being the greatest farmer or agriculturist in the world will not necessarily make you a good business person. Just get a few tips from around people who have done it before and try to bring your own ideas and concepts, in order to make profit it will cost you at the beginning but be consistent and don't give up. Best of luck. [Rtlsnk316]
I guess I'm just afraid to start it. I'm afraid to fail and lose my money and my time. I already did ask for tips from some successful farmers. Well, they did it so I think I can too. Thanks for your advice. [shadow41]
if you don't have any knowledge about this type of business then chances of your success decreases while chances of yours failure increases. But it doesn't mean that you cannot succeed in this business. But if you will have knowledge in this type of business then it will be easy for you to run this business as well as to get success. It's not that I don't have knowledge about it. I'm just having second thoughts about it and I lack the self confidence. I don't have a business background plus poultry raising is risky. [shadow41]
Yes, you can do it. It is important to do your research on running a businesses. There is plenty of free information on the web, so don't spend any capital buying into a scam. It may be worth it to look into taking a class at a local college. Also, check into your local community for free business courses. Talk to your bank execs not for a loan but for business advice. The most important thing to do is to come up with a solid plan before spending a dime. [sierras236]

Hi friends, Just do it. Please get ready for the chance/challenge. From the beginning, you'd better make a scheduled plan and study the marting. Also, the related knowledge is needed. Good luck! [alex_lu]
Yeah I should really study first everything about business. But they say the most important aspect of it is the courage to do it. I think I lack that. I don't think I have the confidence to do it now. shadow41 [shadow41]
I say you research first on the business you want to start.it is better if you are equipped with knowledge on how to operate the business.this will help you in mapping out your business plans.do not go into a business that just earns money, but you don't really love it.you will succeed if you love your business.it will "love" you back. Thanks for the wonderful response. You're right. I should start a business that I love. That way I can put some serious dedication and will to make it successful. Thanks again. happy shadow41 [shadow41]
Dear friend, your plans are awesome but before you start investing you must study your business. That is why its called a plan, for of that plan is to learn about the business. Yes you should do it, but the first things you will do is read and learn about the nature of the business, prices, how to sell, how to take care of the animals and what is involved. You can't depends on your dad showing you. You must learn on your own, keep saving your money and mean time study how to take care of the business and how to get the best prices for all you need about your business. If you do your homework you will do fine [climber7565]
lol i don't have much idea about business, business big or small invoves risk too, in my opinion you should learn the trade by working as an apprentice under some established business man, hope this helps... Thank you so much. . cool Cheers. Happy posting. ARUN . [arun2009]
yes u can succeed if u give ur focus and patience into it, but there is also a big chance to fail. anyway life is like that... u will not suceed if u do not take a risk. [beabenitez]
you do not have to have a business degree to have a business. here in our country you will see a lot of successful businessman which are not even graduates. you learn by experience. so for me, you just have to start small, and you learn from there. you also have to be hands on. especially on poultry and livestock because they are alive. prices of copra fluctuates by the day too, but if you hit it, its jackpot. [thebestmom]
Yes, you can succeed without having much knowledge about business. It is not so much about skill but more on passion, determination and perseverance. Farming business is very profitable and a good business. You can do it by asking some tips from your father and the rest is instinct and charisma. When I was still a young kid, our family lived in the farm because my father, aside from his job in the government office, established a farming business: Poultry business, raising livestock, buy and sell of abaca and copra, we also sell fruits, rootcrops and vegetables. It was a very comfortable life plus peace of mind in living in a farm. I missed those things and kept dreaming to have my own farm and business someday. So go for it, it's normal that you will suffer some setbacks at the first few months of having this business but later on, as you slowly understand how everything runs, you will know how to handle the whole thing. Good luck! [jlamela]
