Pick My New Job

Here are the options: Customer Service for a Bank where you can work any day of the week from 3:30 to Midnight or 2:30 til 11:00 PM full time hours 2 days off that vary from week to week. Customer Service for a Health Care company where you will work every Monday and then Wednesday through Saturday. Sundays and Tuesdays off from 11:30AM to 8:00 PM. or Quality Assurance for a Life Insurance Company where you will work Monday through Friday swing shifts every month. 1 week of 8:30AM - 5:00PM....1 week of 10:00AM to 6:30PM...and one week of 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. When you factor in child care expenses for the different shifts all the jobs pay roughly the same. If these 3 jobs were offered to you which one would you take?

Assuming that whatever training is involved for these positions is equal, I'd opt for the Quality Assurance one with the 3 week swing shift. That way for at least two of the three weeks you are home to do the 'bedtime routine'. That was always an important bonding time with my son, where we'd talk about the day, read a book, or whatever. There was always something special about sitting (or laying) together in a darkened room, all the activities of the day done, that opened up a lot of dialog. [catdla1]
Besides making good money on paper (I know that feeling...lol), you also have to look at the futures of each of those industries. Besides the bank closures that have already taken place, they also have the tendency to be involved in mergers and location closings all the time. Health care may go through changes if any kind of health care reform is passed. Potentially, life insurance companies are least likely to go through the types of changes that result in large layoffs. Plus there should be plenty of opportunity for advancement. [catdla1]

Hey, Your first job sounds good to me. 2.30 to 11 is a good timing. u will have tiem to rest and pursue any hobby u have. Iam not into jobs which has a lot os night shifts. And also 2 days holidays in a week is good. I dont have that luxury. Good luck and hope u get a lot of responses. Cheers, Tutul [tutul0045]
Hey, Its kinda amusing to me as I run my own company. So i can work all 7 days and then may not work for the entire week, lol. But the work culture in my country is like there is only one weekly off day. SO i keep my sundays off. Good if u get 3 days off in a week , more time to play and have fun! Cheers, Tutul [tutul0045]

I think I'd either take the swing shifts (because then you have 2 weeks of evenings off) or the health care one (where you have consistent days off). Knowing which days you have off each week can really make it easier to make plans. The swing shift one is great because you have almost every evening off except that one week out of the month. For me, it's all about the time off and the ease of making plans outside of work :) [vivasuzi]
Well if they are eager to get you back, take that as a sign :) Perhaps they reallllly liked you which means you will probably do well there! The swing shift offers some variety too and gives you a week every month where you can do things in the morning. That's another good reason. [vivasuzi]

Hi, I am really appreciate that you are doing a good job.I like to go with Customer Service for a Bank.I have a lot of experience in Customer care Service in U.S companies. So,plz send me the job link. Waiting for best reply.................. Regards Syed Ibrahim [sibrahim]
Sorry Syed the companies I work for don't outsource their jobs. You would have to be a physical resident in the city, state, and country I live in to be able to apply for these jobs. [cynicalandoutspoken]

Quality assurance because I prefer that type of work... [dawnald]
well in that case [dawnald]

I guess the last one sounds good. It provides a good array of hours. But full time makes me shudder. Do you need that? Full time I mean, nit me shuddering. I have no idea what quality assurance in the insurance industry is? As I regard insurance as rip off merchants is it employment where you bite silver dollars to check that they really are silver? LOL. [p1kef1sh]
If you're "potty" I wanna be a pot too! whistlelolwub [Irishfrndly65]

Customer Service for a Bank sounds like it would be a better job than the other two. Working in health care and life insurance seems like you are going to catch a bunch of "Crap" from people. And plus they will be on hold longer at those jobs, so they will be in such a lovely mood. [LavonTB]
You made a good point but these people are all calling me because there is a problem. I'm gonna take crap regardless. But thanks for stopping by. [cynicalandoutspoken]

I would take the bank job mainly for the reason of the time of the shifts. Im not a morning person and like to sleep in and stay up late so working till 11 or midnight would be fine for me cause Im up past those times anyways. [Jlyn22]
I'm up late too but working those hours I'm only gonna see my kids when they get home from school once a week. [cynicalandoutspoken]

I would take the quality assurance job...no question. My reason for saying this is job growth. I am not sure what the job growth potential is with the bank, but I think the insurance company would have a much better job growth. In addition to growth potential the hours seem better. I guess it all depends on you. Is salary a factor? Does one pay way more? [jross19871]
Did you notice that there was good potential for job growth in the QA position? [jross19871]

If I HAD to pick it would be the last one. More time with the kids. But I have a better job for you. I read this earlier but couldn't respond and on our way into the city today, I fell asleep and dreamed up the perfect job for you. Get your hubs to take twelve pics of you in various poses appropriate to each month of the year. Run those photos down to your local photo composition kwiki mart and put together a calendar. Make a dozen copies and hustle them around to every Bank, Insurance Company and Fire Station in your area. Subcriptions for future years available on request.......................... Ok, ok, it was a bumpy drive to the city and my dreams got kind of weird.......LOL Just seemed like the perfect solution to keeping you available to your kids, get the hubs proactive and interested in your 'career' and making you not only rich, but famous! ROFL [sparkofinsanity]
LOL, trust you to already have calendar pics! Too funny. Here's a thought for a pumpkin one.........don't forget to click on it: [sparkofinsanity]

If I were to choose. I would choose customer service for a health care company. Because you have a fix schedule and the time is not so late in the evening so that you can still have fun at night go to bars and night out. And of course you're off during Sunday with this job so you can have more time for God. [marctiu]
I don't go out to bars so that really doesn't matter that much to me. But having a set schedule is nice. [cynicalandoutspoken]

I will definitely pick the 3rd option (Quality Assurance for a Life Insurance Co.) for the simple reason that you still have Saturdays and Sundays as day-off which is the regular day-off for the entire family. I don't see the swing shift as a problem since this falls on a regular day where most of my family are out of the house anyway. What's important to me is that I'll be with my family on my day-off. [jonasbsl]
That's true. Everyone in the family is off Saturdays and Sundays. It may make it hard for me to see the doctor and things like that while working normal business hours but I'm sure I will figure it all out. Thanks for your comment. [cynicalandoutspoken]

Having worked the horror that is customer service I would have to go with the QA one. I have nightmares about customer service. [silentcodingone]
To make it worse it was for an online pet supply company. Nothing is worse than being ripped apart on the phone because Buddy's b-day presents will not be there in time so they can be wrapped before his party. lol [silentcodingone]

I think for me it would be the Health Insurance Company. It sounds the least stressful. I imagine Customer Service for a bank would be horrendous and almost as bad The Life Insurance in so far as you would have to know ALL the ins and outs and be able to fob off the nasty types. The hours are horrible...all around mealtime which would be a busy time at your place...who will take your place?? Have you had your holiday yet? [MsTickle]
I knew you would have it all worked out...I think deep down you will always have a plan so that what ever you need you will be able to do it. You're a clever gal.happy [MsTickle]
