I always had this idea that the standard of living in my country is very high. I have used to work in neighbouring countries, and with the amount of salary earn, I can do much better. I used to earn in the range of 2000, and I spend 4.50 for a cup of starbucks coffee. However, when I return to my own country, I am earning 3000 but I have to spend a minimum of 9.00 for a cup of starbucks coffee. Here in our place the average earning i think is 200USD. I think a cooked whole chicken here cost around $3. I think the salary rates differ according to the cost of living in a place. There are places in out country that the cost of living is much more expensive and thus their salaries are also high. [nrtan2000]

My salary is less than 1000 dollars. If I could convert my currency into dollars it`ll come around 500 to 600 dollars only. But this itself sufficient for a bachelor in my country. One kg of chicken is less than 2 dollars herehappy. The cost of living matters only about 200 to 250 dollars is necessary to fulfil my basic needs which includes food, clothing, house rent, vehicle fuel etc. Which means I can save more than half of my income. The average salary is about USD600~USD800 in my country. However, the salary mean nothing, you need to compare with the goods and living fee then you can find the different. If my salary is that big it is enough and too much to my family. $1 here in the Philippines is P48 you can live a comfortable life in that salary. The cost of living here is much cheaper than to live in any country. That's why many foreigners what to retire here because their money is much bigger here. Well, for us that is good enough already. It would be a decent living for us if our salary is that high. However, it varies from which part of the country you are. If you live within Metro Manila like Makati. I think it's just enough but if you live in a middle or lower class city, it would be big enough for you. You have big extra money in your pocket.
